Materials - block off plate - $7
5-7 psi electric pump - $25
10gauge wire, switch, 10ft of EFI rubber gas lines and clamps - $20
I bought heavy duty switch and wire even though the pump pulls
<5 amps.
So just locate your fuel line directly in front of the fuel tank. Theres
3 hardlines there that look exactly alike, MAKE SURE you've got the right
one, the other are a brake like and return line. I clipped the appropriate
hardline w/ heavy clippers then gently bent the line into position,
then used a hacksw to cut a few inches to accomodate the pump. I
drilled holes in the frame for mount and ground, and used some thick rubber
sheeting to kill the rattle.
Then I removed the nasty old mechanical pump and associated plumbing,
installed the block off plate and ran new rubber line from the hardline
down on the frame to the filter, carb and return line. Due to probable
metal shavings in the line, remember to change your fuel filter soon after
this procedure.
Wiring is as hard as you want to make it, I simply wired mine to the
manual dashboard switch and got power from an ignition switched fuse. (only
hot when the keys are in ACC or ON position). Others believe that
it should be switched according to oil pressure because in the event of
an accident and severed fuel lines, the pump could continue pumping and
pose a serious fire risk.
Final result? Awesome, starts great every time, no vapor lock. Pump runs very cool, doesn't even get warm.
Update - 08/10/03 - After about one hour of stop and go driving in heavy
traffic on a 100 degree day (at a mile hi in denver) I vaporlocked,
I managed to pull off into the shade and after about 15 mins with the hood
open, the pump started pumpin liquid again and I was on my way. After
this incident I will be insulating my fuel lines and possibly a fuel cooler
from summit.

stealthy switch - those cool knobs are machined aluminum, held on by
a grub screw, Currie # CE-9036
so long sucker!

Vivacity, leadership, must be had, and we are not allowed to be nice
in choosing. We must fetch the pump with dirty water, if clean cannot be
had.
